Dear Kent,
Twelve years ago I received my diploma from Kent
Roosevelt. Since then I have had many great experiences, but none more
exciting than the one I am headed towards now. During the last several
years I have had the wonderful opportunity to compete on the USA
National Bobsled Team. It is considered the highest honor for an athlete
to represent his country in international competition, and it is my
dream to represent the United States in the upcoming 2006 Winter
Olympics in Torino, Italy.
Each year hundreds of athletes from across the United
States tryout to make the USA National Bobsled Team, but only a select
few make the cut. The bobsled season, which takes place annually from
November to February, consists of an eight race World Cup Tour,
including races in the US, Canada, Italy, Austria, Germany, Switzerland
and France. In addition to the regular season, the team competes in
either the World Championships or the Olympics, depending on the year.
As with any sport, making the Olympic team is not
guaranteed, but I have proven myself as a top American push athlete on
the bobsled team. Two years ago I had the honor of being one of only two
athletes selected to the national team during my first season in the
sport. That year my team had many top finishes, including a silver medal
in the St. Moritz, Switzerland Europa Cup, and a 12th place finish in
the 2004 World Championships in Konegsee, Germany. This past season our
team continued to improve, finishing consistently in the top ten,
including a 7th place finish in Torino, Italy, site of the upcoming
Olympics, and ending the season with an overall world ranking of 7th.
I am currently raising money to fund myself through the
2006 Winter Olympic Games. There are many yearly expenses that go into
the sport of bobsledding, including international travel, equipment,
training fees, room and board. Unfortunately these expenses are not
covered by the US Bobsled Federation so it is the responsibility of the
athlete to cover these costs.
My hometown connection with Kent creates a natural
partnership, therefore I would like to discuss a potential sponsorship.
In exchange for helping to fund my Olympic dream, I am approved to
provide logo space on my uniform, helmet and bobsled to sponsors.
Because the Olympic year draws such attention, the sport will not only
be highly featured in newspapers and magazines, but each of the races
will be televised, making your sponsorship nationally visible. I am
available to make appearances at special occasions, speak at events,
appear in advertisements and provide exciting updates from the tour.
Thank you for your consideration,
