Rock ‘n Roll through the West
River Neighborhood
On Friday, June 1st from
4 to 8 PM, 8 Kent businesses and organizations are sponsoring the forth
annual “Rock ‘n Roll through the West River Neighborhood.” Sponsors are
opening their doors to visitors for tours. In addition, Rockin’ through
the West River Neighborhood includes a cookout, live music and great
local gift baskets. This event is free and open to the public.
Eight locations (Family and
Community Services, McKay Bricker Studios, Western Reserve Spine & Pain
Management, Primary Care Associates, Kent Parks & Recreation, Center for
Healthy Aging, R.W. Martin and Williams, Welser and Kratcoski) will
offer personalized tours of their facility The tours/open house will be
offered from 4-6 p.m. and the cookout will continue until the end of the
festivities at 8:00 p.m. Family and Community Services, located at 143
Gougler Avenue, will be grilling hot dogs and hamburgers and providing
refreshments.
This historic neighborhood in
Kent features such eclectic buildings as the Silk Mill Apartments, the
old church – now converted into R.W. Martin & Sons, and the dwelling
where the Franklin Township Trustees conduct government business today.
Brady’s Leap Condominiums is the newest development, while West River
Place, which houses Butler Wick, Wachovia and The Center for Healthy
Aging, was recently refurbished. Family and Community Services also
underwent a major renovation several years ago. In addition, Kent Parks
and Recreation’s River Edge park runs along the west bank of the
Cuyahoga and will soon connect with a new hike and bike trail along the
ole Erie Railroad mainline. The new trail will connect Kent with Ravenna
as part of the Portage Hike & Bike Trail.
