Rock ‘n Roll through the West River Neighborhood

On Friday, June 1st from 4 to 8 PM, 8 Kent businesses and organizations are sponsoring the forth annual “Rock ‘n Roll through the West River Neighborhood.”  Sponsors are opening their doors to visitors for tours. In addition, Rockin’ through the West River Neighborhood includes a cookout, live music and great local gift baskets. This event is free and open to the public.

Eight locations (Family and Community Services, McKay Bricker Studios, Western Reserve Spine & Pain Management, Primary Care Associates, Kent Parks & Recreation, Center for Healthy Aging, R.W. Martin and Williams, Welser and Kratcoski) will offer personalized tours of their facility  The tours/open house will be offered from 4-6 p.m. and the cookout will continue until the end of the festivities at 8:00 p.m. Family and Community Services, located at 143 Gougler Avenue, will be grilling hot dogs and hamburgers and providing refreshments.

This historic neighborhood in Kent features such eclectic buildings as the Silk Mill Apartments, the old church – now converted into R.W. Martin & Sons, and the dwelling where the Franklin Township Trustees conduct government business today. Brady’s Leap Condominiums is the newest development, while West River Place, which houses Butler Wick, Wachovia and The Center for Healthy Aging, was recently refurbished. Family and Community Services also underwent a major renovation several years ago. In addition, Kent Parks and Recreation’s River Edge park runs along the west bank of the Cuyahoga and will soon connect with a new hike and bike trail along the ole Erie Railroad mainline. The new trail will connect Kent with Ravenna as part of the Portage Hike & Bike Trail.
