Green Technologies to be showcased at Second Annual Kent Green Energy Ohio Tour and Clean Transportation Cruise-In

See green technologies including renewable energy, green building and clean transportation at the Kent Green Energy Ohio Tour.

The tour will take place Saturday, Sept. 29 from 12 - 4 p.m. at multiple locations at Kent State University
    and throughout the Kent community.

This free, open-house style is part of the statewide 16th annual Green Energy Ohio Tour.

View cost saving and renewable energy solutions in the Kent community at the Ruchotzke and Bruder residences, Kent Cooperative Housing Franklin House, Standing Rock Cultural Arts Center and the City of Kent Police Station.

At Kent State, visitors can tour the Center for Architecture and Environmental Design (CAED), which received a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum certification by the U.S. Green Building Council. Participants can learn about Kent State’s solar panel installation at the Fieldhouse, which produces enough energy to power 353 homes for a year and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 2,596 tons.

A Kent Clean Transportation Cruise-In is also a stop on the tour. This family friendly event will showcase energy-efficient vehicles (EEVs) including hybrid and electric models (e.g., Tesla, Nissan Leaf, Chevy Volt, Honda Civic Hybrid); and Kent State’s  Zero Emission Vehicle, the first golf cart powered by a solar panel, fuel cell and batteries. Local public and bike transportation options will also be highlighted.

The cruise-In will be located adjacent to the Kent Creativity Festival in the Kent State Cutler Building parking lot located at 414 E. Main Street, at the southeast corner of East Main and South Willow streets.

Cyclists can do a self-guided tour or join a bike tour led by Kent Cycle.  Pre-registration is encouraged but not required, and can be done online at the Kent State Office of Sustainability website listed below. Site locations, available times, and maps can be found on the Green Energy Ohio Tour’s website listed below.

The Kent Green Energy Ohio Tour is a joint event co-sponsored by the Kent State Office of Sustainability and the City of Kent Sustainability Commission.
