Portage County Good Deeds Program

The Good Deeds Program is a deed review for Portage County homeowners. It is a join effort between Recorder Lori Calcei, Clerk of Courts Jill Fankhauser, Judge Bob Berger and the Portage County Bar Association.

Information will be presented on how to take care of your estate matters and minimize the probate process when you are grieving the loss of a loved one.

It will help you:
Identify whether the form of your present deed and/or auto title will require transfer through the Probate Court upon death.
Consider less expensive, less time consuming alternatives to the probate process.

Prior to attending, contact the Recorder's office to obtain a copy of your deed and the Clerk of Courts, Auto Title division to obtain a copy of your vehicle title. Both offices are located in the Administration Building, 449 S Meridian St, in Ravenna.

After you have received your deed and title, come to one of the meetings for light refreshments and a presentation on various estate matters. After the presentation, there will be local attorneys on hand to speak with you individually regarding your estate matters.

Recorder Lori Calcei will explain the recording process and how the Program was started.
Clerk of Courts Jill Fankhauser will discuss the procedure for filing Affidavits in the Title Office for designation of beneficiaries and automobile surviving spouse Affidavits.

Probate Judge Bob Berger will discuss your estate matters including an explanation of different options to title your deed; your bank accounts; car titles; and the need for a Will and storage options.

Go to your own attorney, or local attorneys from the Portage County Bar Association will be in attendance to review homeowner's current deed and/or auto title and help you to decide the best course of action tailored to your needs for a nominal charge.
