    Event Description:
For seniors experiencing any kind of vision loss, even the most mundane daily chore can be overwhelming. From tying ones shoes to putting the lid back on the ketchup to seeing the text on a phone screen, not addressing “little things” can add up to big things. Big things can be mis-reading a speed limit sign to say 55 instead of 35.

For the July 26th Speaker Series, Lunching & Learning at Stow-Glen Retirement Village, speakers Tom and Alicia from The Cleveland Sight Center will address many of the “little things” with a talk about Tips, Tools & Techniques for Seniors with Vision Loss. In this session, Tom and Alicia will talk about multiple ways for people who have vision loss to accomplish various tasks at home, work and daily living activities. Alicia will demonstrate how a person can use an iPhone without seeing the screen. Tom and Alicia will also talk about some of the latest low vision and blind product technologies and other things that have been working for people with vision loss. Part of the presentation will include discussion about how to interact with a person with vision loss in a helpful, considerate and empowering way.

About the speakers: Cleveland Sight Center has served the needs of Northeast Ohio residents who are blind or have low vision for over a century. Alicia Howerton is a client at Cleveland Sight Center and has been a hope-giving employee for eight years. Technology has given her the ability and opportunity to do many things she never thought were possible. Tom Sawyer has been an employee of Cleveland Sight Center for the last ten years in assistive technology. He looks for new and emerging technologies that provide greater independence for those who have vision loss.
