2007 Kent Medal for Public Service

Ronald L. Burbick

The Kent Medal for Public Service is bestowed on individuals, institutions, or organizations whose community service has resulted in the advancement of the common good, promotion of public welfare, or stimulation of public service.  It is the highest honor conferred by the Kent Area Chamber of Commerce.  Since 1946, fifty-three Public Service Awards have been conferred.

This year we are extremely pleased to continue our long tradition of recognizing the efforts of a community leader that not only enhances our business climate but promotes the entire quality of life of our community.  This year’s Kent Medal for Public Service recipient has played an extremely important role in a plethora of worthwhile endeavors throughout our community.  He generously assists local service clubs and agencies with his time, talents and support.  His contributions have helped to develop additional community leaders as well as help their organizations achieve greater effectiveness and enhance their success.

This year’s recipient is a retired Schneller, Inc. executive and past major stock owner. After years as a successful local business professional, he continued his legacy of community leadership by creating a local foundation, the Burbick Foundation.

Some of the quality organizations he has volunteered in and sponsored include: Leadership Portage County, where he helped initiate the organization, served as president and remains on the Board of Directors today. He helped to get the Kent Main Street Program off the ground with a donation and made the new trash containers a reality. He is involved in the Kent Rotary Club and Family & Community services of Portage County.  His involvement with the Coleman Professional Group includes the Burbick at Coleman-senior daycare center. He is the Past President of the Children’s Advocacy Center.  He underwrites an annual KSU Scholarship.  He is on the Board of his alma mater, Alderson-Broaddus. He initiated and supports the Diane Burbick girl’s leadership conference. He is a member and Past President of the Kent Area Chamber of Commerce.

The Kent Area Chamber of Commerce is pleased to present the 2007 Kent Medal for Public Service to:
