III. MAIN STREET BLOCK PARTY. Saturday, April 22. 11am-4pm. Downtown Kent's Main Street will be closed off for Environmental Vendors, a Parade of Eco Heros, Music, Children's Poetry, and Alternative Energy Displays. FREE!
-This year's Parade carries the theme of BICYCLES around Downtown Kent and promises to reveal some amazing Bicycles in Costume thanks to the creative work of The Breakneck Alchemists' larger than life costumes. The Parade will culminate in a Poetry Reading by Youngsters! 3rd grade students will read poems about trees at the stage on E. Main St. in front of Troy Grille. Parade begins at 2:30pm. Students read at 3pm.
DESCRIPTION:
The purpose of the festival is to celebrate Earth Day and bring a greater awareness to the idea of sustainable, ecological activities to a large number of people in our region.
There are four main ideas presented at the event:
1. Alternative Energy
2. Sustainable Agriculture
3. Conservation
4. Multi-Media Environmental Education (Films, Music, Dance, etc.)
We appreciate the many businesses and organizations doing work to help protect and promote the beauty of mama earth. We feel this festival is a unique and rewarding celebration of those green efforts around the world and in our local community !
